The Asia Cup is an international cricket tournament Organized by Asian Cricket Council founded in 1983, as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries. initially it was Played only in 50 Over format but from 2016 onwards It is being played on both in ODI and T20s format. The Asia Cup Cricket tournament was originally scheduled to be held in every two years.
in 2015, the Asian Cricket Council and ICC, announced that Asia Cup events from 2016 would be played on a rotation basis between One Day International and Twenty20 International format based on the format of upcoming ICC world Cricket Tournaments. As a result, the 2016 Cricket tournament was the first event played in the T20I format as a preparatory Series ahead of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 Championship.
Asia Cup Teams:
The first Asia Cup in 1984 was Played By 3 teams, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh, the fourth Team Joined the Tournament in the Year 1986 as India Pulled out of the Tournament due to soured relations with Sri Lanka.
UAE and Hong Kong Joined Asia Cup in 2004, the 8th edition of the tournament.
Afghanistan entered in the Asia cup cricket tournament in the year 2014
Nepal will be a part of the tournament in 2023 edition and joined the series as 8th team.

The Asia Cup 1984 to 2023:
Year 1984 : the 1st Edition
it is the first edition of the tournament Played by three Nations, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka
the tournament was held between 6th April 1984 to 13th April 1984
It was Hosted by Sharjah, UAE
Winner- India, Runner Up- Sri Lanka
Pakistan Returned home without winning a single game, of its two games.
Year 1986: the 2nd Edition
The 2nd Edition of Asia Cup was organised by Sri Lanka
Held between March 30, 1986 and April 6, 1986
Qualified Teams are- Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh
India pulled out of the tournament due to soured cricketing relations with Sri Lanka after a controversial series in Sri Lanka in the previous year.
Bangladesh, the fourth Team Joined the Tournament
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the final and won the tournament.
1988: the 3rd Edition
The 3rd edition was held in Bangladesh in 1988,
Was held between 26th October 1988 and 4th November 1988.

Bangladesh organised a multi-national cricket tournament the first time in history of Cricket.
India beat Sri Lanka In the final by 6 wickets to won their 2nd title.
1990 the 4th Edition
India Hosted the 4th Edition of the Tournament.
Was held Between 25 December 1990, and 4 January 1991
Qualified Teams are – India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh
Due to political Dispute with India, Pakistan pulled out of the tournament.
India won the Asia Cup defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
1993 Asia Cup
the tournament was called off due to political dispute between India and Pakistan.
1995: the 5th Edition
The 5th series was hosted by Sharjah, UAE.
The tournament took place between 5th April 1995 and 14th April 1995.
Qualified Teams for the Tournament are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh
India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, earned equal points after the league round, so India and Sri Lanka qualified to the final because of better run rate
India defeated Sri Lanka in third successive time an won its 4th title.
1997: The 6th Edition
The 6th Edition of Asia Cup Held in Sri Lanka.
Was Held between July 14th to 26th, 1997

Sri Lanka Won its 2nd Title beating India in the final.
2000: the 7th edition of Asia Cup
In the 2000, the 7th edition of Asia Cup was Hosted By Bangladesh
Held between 29th May to 7th June 2000

India, did not qualify for the final for the very first time in Asia Cup History
Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the Final and won the Cup for 1st time.

The 8th edition was held in Sri Lanka in 2004 between 16th July 2004 to 1st Aug 2004.
UAE and Hong Kong Joined Asia Cup for the first time
Qualified Teams for the Tournament are – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, and Hong Kong
6 teams were played the tournament divided into two groups with 3 teams in each group

The 9th Edition was Hosted by Pakistan between 24th June to 6th July 2008.

Sri Lanka Won the Asia Cup Defeating India by 100 runs in the Final Match.
2010: the 10th edition
The 10th edition was held in Sri Lanka in 2010 between 15 to 24 June 2010

India Beat Sri Lanka in the Final and Won the Trophy for the 5th time.

The 11th edition was Hosted by Bangladesh between 11th to 22nd March 2012.

2016 the 13th Edition
In 2015, Asian Cricket Council was announced that Asia Cup tournaments will be played on both in ODI and T20I format on a rotation basis. So, 2016 Asia cup was Played in T20s format as ICC T20 World cup was next to come after the Asia Cup.
The Tournament was Organised by Bangladesh between 24 February to 6 March 2016.
5 teams Participated in the Tournament.
Qualified Teams for the Tournament are – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and UAE.
India Won the Tournament defeating Bangladesh in the Final.

2018 the 14th Edition
Initially, it was announced that the 2018 edition of Asia Cup was Hosted by India and it will be Played in ODI format as 50 Over ODI world Cup was Going to be held in 2019. But finally, the tournament was shifted to UAE due to Dispute Between India and Pakistan in Certain Issues.
The Tournament was Played between 16 September to 28 September 2018
Qualified Teams for the Tournament are – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong
The Defending Campion India won the trophy beating Bangladesh in Final.

2020 Asia Cup :Covid Pandemic
Asia Cup 2020 was Postponed to 2021 due to Covid Pandemic but later it again Postponed to 2022 for the Same reason.
UAE was Hosted the 2022 Asia Cup Tournament with packed stadiums. No body allowed into the stadium except those Players, organizers and officials and Security Personnel.
Asia cup 2022: the 15th Edition
The 15th Edition of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament was Held at UAE. It was Played in T20 Format between 27 August to 11 September 2022

It was announced that, Pakistan is awarded to host the 2023 Edition of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament but Later Indian Cricket Team was reluctant to visit Pakistan so for the first time in Asia Cup History, the 2023 Edition of Asia cup is going to be Hosted by two Countries,
4 Matches will be Played in Pakistan and other 9 matches will be Played in Sri Lanka.
India Matches will be Played at Sri Lanka.

Group A – India, Pakistan, and Nepal
Group B- Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan
The Tournament will Start on 30th Aug 2023 and the Final Match will be Played on 17 September 2023.
